KABUL; however, they were frustrated.

Maj. Gen. DawlatWaziri, the deputy spokesman for the MoD, while addressing a press conference in Kabul said that insurgent activities and movements had increased by 13 percent this year in comparison with the last year. At the same time the casualties inflicted on militants were also increased by 11 percent.

He said that this year some rebel groups had intended to transfer their councils and terrorist centres into Afghanistan from Pakistan, but despite all their efforts they had failed to achieve this hideous goal.

“The enemy is on the verge of collapse in Afghanistan; but war is going on. We carried out 15 operations in 13 provinces today alone across the country. Our Air Forces also conducted 86 clearing operations.”

Najib Danish, the acting spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said that the counter-narcotics department conducted over 2,000 operations in the past year and detained about 2,600 individuals in connection with smuggling. “Of the detainees, 64 were policemen, soldiers and government officials.”

He added that the arrested also included 50 women and 13 foreign nationals.

Danish also said that the operations conducted by the MoI’s counter-terrorism department were underway in many provinces along with the ministry’s efforts towards professionally training the police force.
