More than 40,000 NCP vehicles exist in Takhar

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Local traffic officials say more than 40,000 non-custom-paid (NCP) vehicles exist in northern Takhar province. Such automobiles are increasingly used in criminal incidents.

Hazrat Gul Farkhari, Takhar traffic department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News NCP vehicles were one of the reasons behind the rising crimegraph in the province.

Takhar police spokesman, Maj. Abdul Khalil Aseer told Pajhwok that besides criminal activity, NCP vehicles were used for smuggling as well.

“These vehicles don’t have legal documents and that’s why police cannot find them after being used in a crime. Most of criminal cases in Takhar involve NCP vehicles,” he admitted.

Sirajudin, a resident of Farkhar district, said his brother was killed by armed robbers last year, but his killers were yet to be arrested. His brother,having an NCP vehicle, was shot dead by robbers, who took away his car.

A large number of other people also own NCP vehicles. No one bothers about askingfor the vehicles’ documents, Sirajuddin complained more money had to be paid for documentation than the price of the vehicle.

Local officials have made multiple attempts to prevent the movement of NCP vehicles in the province, but failed.The government registers only left-hand NCP vehicles. Right-hand automobiles can move without any restrictions.

In near future, Takhar officials promised taking more steps toward banning NCP vehicles.
