KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Joseph Dunford, accompanied by NATO Gen. John Nicholson, visited southern Kandahar province late on Thursday and assured of the US continued support with Afghans in various fields.
Gen. Dunford held talks with Kandahar governor Zalmai Wesa at the governor’s house in Kandahar City, the provincial capital, and discussed with him matters concerning the security situation, economy, agriculture and others in the province.
The general said the United States would continue assisting Kandahar province in various fields besides security aid with Afghanistan. He assured of exclusive assistance with Kandahar in areas of education, irrigation and other development sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Wesa said Kandahar needed assistance in areas of health, education and agriculture and added people of remote areas faced these problems the most.
The governor said the US should help Kandahar resolve its irrigation water scarcity and meet electricity demand. Wesa called as helpful the US assistance with the Afghan security forces and insisted on continued assistance.
