PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A foreign forces helicopter made an emergency landing in Kharwar district of central Logar province, officials said on Tuesday, but the Taliban claimed downing it.
Samar Gul Rashid, district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that US forces carried out attack on militants’ hideouts in the Niyamat village of the district on Monday.
He said insurgents suffered heavy casualties but the exact figures were not yet known. During the operation a chopper belonging to American forces made an emergency landing but no casualties happened, he added.
On the other hand, Abdul Wali Wakil, a member of provincial council, said that local residents told him the chopper was crashed. However, he did not go into details.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, wrote in his twitter account, the helicopter was shot down by the movement’s fighters. He also said that a large number of foreign troops had suffered casualties.
