BALKH , Nov 28, 2013: In charge Khat-i-Naw organization in northern Balkh province said about 209,000 hectors of land was covered by poppy and hashish crops across the country in 2013, showing manifold increase in the illicit crops production as compared to 2011.
Addressing a gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif city, head of the organization, Abdul Qadir Misbah, linked the surge in poppy cultivation to government and international community negligence.
He expressed shock by saying that it was a surprising news as the poppy crops rose over 123 hectors of land in 2011, unfortunately the figures soared to 209,000 hectors this year.”
