320 disputes, enmities resolved last year: Ministry

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs officials say 320 enmities between tribes and families were resolved last year across the country through mediation.

Since coming into power the interim government has been trying to resolve feuds and enmities between tribes and families through negotiations.

Addressing a gathering of tribal leaders and religious scholars, organised by the Department of Borders and Tribal Affairs in Khost, officials of the ministry said such meetings had been fruitful for coherence.

Maulvi Abdul Haq Abid, deputy coordinator of jigras and tribal affairs of this ministry, told the meeting that such sessions are held from time to time for the sake of harmony and unity among the people.

Maulvi Abdul Haq Abid, coordinator of jirga and tribl affairs at the ministry, said they had sorted out 320 disputes across the country in the past one year and the drive series was still underway.

“In all the provinces of Afghanistan, we are trying to solve the issues between Muslims. The goal of the Islamic Emirate is that there should be no prejudice and difficulties among Muslims and their disputes should be resolved,” he commented.

Abid requested tribal leaders and religious scholars to shun personal differences and choose the path of unity and amity.

Speaking on the occasion, tribal elders and religious scholars stressed the need for coordination between the tribes and the government.

Ulema Council Deputy Chairman Maulvi Haqqani said coordination between the rulers and tribes was more important than anything else.

“If you and I do not coordinate with IEA and the people, if we don’t join hands, it will be difficult for us to reach our destination. Another thing is that not only the government will fall, but the decline of the nation is tied to it.”

At the same time, tribal leader Toryalay Mangal told the audience old tribal structures should be revived for the sustainability of the existing system.

He also underlined the importance of unity and harmony between the government and tribes for the stability of the system. He urged government osficials to embrace the people.
