GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): About 30 girl students of a high school have been apparently poisoned in Jaghori district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.
Education Department head Mohammad Abid Abid told Pajhwok Afghan News the girls at the Shah Yar Sultan Alamtu High School fell ill for unknown reason.
As the reason was unascertained, he believed, the incident might be resulted from hot weather condition. Abid said the girls had been hospitalized and their health condition was said to be stable.
A resident of the area, Mohammad Hussain, also confirmed the incident, saying the area wasn’t that much hot to knock someone unconscious. “Some kind of toxic gas has been sprayed around the school because other people have felt the smell.”
Meanwhile, programs in-charge at the Ministry of Education, Kabir Haqmal, tweeted that 35 girls had been poisoned in Jaghori district. He didn’t go into details.
Earlier, about 50 girls were poisoned in Khak-i-Ghariba High School in Ghazni city, the provincial capital.
