Pajhwok Afghan News is Afghanistan’s largest independent news agency. With headquarters in Kabul, a nationwide network of reporters and correspondents, and an international headquarters outside of Afghanistan, Pajhwok delivers an average daily output of three dozen stories in Pashto, Dari and English. Pajhwok also provides photographs, video footage and audio clips to international wire agencies, television and radio stations.
Given the current situation in Afghanistan, the reporting situation for Pajhwok staff is not always safe, so, to protect our teams we may not always be able to report all sides of a story or may need to delay publication of some details, due to threats on our staff. We may use our staff outside the country to interpret or expand stories that cannot be filed in details from Kabul
Despite the challenges, Pajhwok remains committed to impartiality, professional journalism and a commitment to revealing all the facts when it is safe to do so.
From its beginnings as a small project to report on the 2003 Constitutional Loya Jirga, Pajhwok has become the main provider of daily news to the country’s media and the most trusted source of news about Afghanistan from an Afghan perspective. Pajhwok is wholly owned and operated by Afghans and has no political affiliations. We are committed to reporting information for the benefit of Afghan people and to inform the world of the latest situation in the country.
Pajhwok’s Mission
Since its foundation, Pajhwok’s mission has been to help build a diverse Afghan media that keeps Afghan citizens informed, promotes transparency and accountability in governance, broadens participation in national life and fosters respect for human rights. We remain committed to this goal, even in the current difficult circumstances.
