GHAZNI CITY (PAN): About 7,500 acres of government-owned land has been grabbed by powerful individuals and warlords in the southern province of Ghazni, an official said on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada set up a commission comprised of the representatives from agriculture, justice, municipality and information departments to prevent further encroachments on state land.
In an exclusive interview Pajhwok Afghan News, a member of the commission said a dozen men had sold large tracts of land. Sultan Abbasyar, however, stopped short of naming the sellers.
Land-grab cases would be investigated before the encroachers were to judicial and justice organs, the panel member said.
Some detained encroachers were under investigation, the governor said, without giving into details.
Provincial council member, Amanullah Kamrani, believed the government would not punish land-grabbers. Since the authorities leniently dealt with such offenders, more governmental land could be seized, he feared.
Ten days back, the Afghanistan Land Authority head, Ahmad Shahir Shahriar, said that two million acres of state land had grabbed across the country over the last three decades.
