FAIZABAD (PAN Bank-funded bridge projects were launched were launched in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Wednesday.
Each year flash floods and overflowing rivers block routes to nine districts and cause causalities, Badakhshan Governor Shah Waliullah Adeeb told Pajhwok Afghan News.
To deal with the problems, three bridge projects were launched in Faizabad, the provincial capital, and Yoftul Payeen district, he said.
Director of Public Works Mohammad Rafiq said a 100-metre-long and seven-metre-wide bridge would be built on the Simenjo River and two other bridges in Baddara and Mirshikaran villages.
The projects would be completed in a year at a cost of 52 million afghanis ($1.13 million) provided by the World Bank, Rafiq added.
