SHARAN (PAN): Gunmen shot dead a tribal elder in the Yahyakhel district of southeastern Paktika province on Sunday, officials said.
The unknown armed men got Haji Ramazan out of his residence in the Matakhel area in the afternoon and shot him dead, the governor's spokesman, Mukhlis Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Tribal affairs chief, Zahir Khan Katawazai, said Ramazan was an influential figure of the area and had been active in resolving problems of his area people.
He said the Taliban wanted to spread fear among residents by killing their elders.
Resident said the slain elder was a former jihadi, the second largest militant group after the Taliban.
There was no claim of responsibility for the killing that came 10 days after insurgents killed a tribal elder in the same district.
