1,100 orphan children receive assistance

JALALABAD (PAN): A Saudi charity on Monday launched the process of distributing financial assistances to hundreds of orphan children at five rehabilitation centres in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said.

The assistance from the International Association of Muslim Youth is being distributed to 1,100 children in Batikot, Shinwari, Momand Dara and Rodad districts and Jalalabad.

Faizanullah Mukhlis, the association’s head for the Nangarhar chapter, told Pajhwok Afghan News each student would receive 3,210 afghanis a year as pocket money. The children, including 110 girls, will also receive textbooks, clothes, sport equipment, shoes, and stationary.

The distribution was formally launched at the Angor Bagh Rehabilitation Centre in Jalalabad under the supervision of social affairs and economic departments’ officials.

Mukhlis said the process would take four months to complete. He estimated the total assistance for the current year at 3.5 million afghanis.

Fatima, a 10-year-old orphan girl from Sherzad district, said had received almost all things she needed. The fourth grade student suggested the association should arrange calligraphy and embroidery courses for girls.

Another student, Shahid, said the Saudi charity sometimes also provided food assistance to their families. He said the assistance should be given to students up to 12^th grade.
