KABUL): Two policemen have been killed and one child injured in recent violence in the southern and central parts of the country, officials said on Wednesday.
In Arghandab, Faizullah, who recently joined the local police, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in a fruit market in the Second District of Kandahar City, Arghandab District Chief Shah Mohammad Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The incident took place 55 meters away from a police checkpoint, said Abdullah, a secretary at police headquarters.
The checkpoint commander and two policemen have been arrested and are being interrogated about the incident, he said.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for Faizullah’s death.
Another policeman was killed in neighboring Zabul province in a separate incident. The policeman was shot dead at around 10:00 am when militants attacked his patrol in the bazaar of Shah Joy district, Deputy District Chief Mohammad Alam Afghan said.
Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed the responsilbity for the attack.
In the Mabayan area of the Tagab district of central Kapisa province, a 13-year-old boy was critically injured by shrapnel during a clash between security personnel and Taliban fighters on Wednesday, according to the district police chief, Col. Padshah Gul Bakhtyar.
The boy has been taken to a health facility of foreign troops, residents of the area said.
