KHOST CITY (PAN): The residents of the mountainous southeastern border province of Khost are happy with their MPs.
A number of Khost residents say their MPs have honored most of the promises they made to their constituents during the electioneering.
Qader Gul, 25, a resident of the Matoon area of Khost City, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was happy that the MP he voted for, had been elected to Parliament and had visited Khost province several times to help residents solve problems.
He added that he was proud he had voted for the right person and had not misused his right to vote, he was glad not to has wested his vote.
Noorullah Afghan, a twelfth grader at the Abdul Hai Habibi High School, told Pajhwok that Khost MPs had promised during the election campaign that they would pay more attention to education.
He said nearly 700 hundred poor students, including him, are studying in an educational center that teaches English and computer skills and prepares students for the college entrance examination.
The MPs personally paid for the construction of the education center. But he insists the MPs to do more.
Hewad Pal Zwak Educational Center was constructed by MPs Hamayon, Dr. Mirbat Mangal, Lyaqat Babakar Khil, Senator Arifullah Pashton and Sahera Sharif.
The head of the educational center said the MPs pay the school’s monthly operating expenses, which amount to about 160 afghanis.
Jawid, another resident of Gurbuz district of Khost province, told Pajhwok Afghan News that residents were having fewer problems with their provincial government since their MPs joined Parliament.
Zahidullah, a resident of the Dargi village of the Tani district says some government lands had been held by warlords but that their new MPs had solved the problem.
He said that some infrastructure projects had been postponed due to the warlords’ hold on government lands. But he said that the new MPs had cooperated with the government to retake those lands, and that he appreciated them.
Khost province has five seats in Parliament, four of them occupied by men and one by a woman.
