KUNDUZ CITY (PAN ambush in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Wednesday.
Commander Nasim was ambushed late on Tuesday in the Kanam area on the outskirts of Kunduz City, provincial police chief said. Maj. Gen. Samiullah Qatra told Pajhwok Afghan News the victim had been deputed as commander for over a year.
Nasratullah, a resident, accused the commander of misbehavior and fleecing, including collecting Usher (one 10th) yields and money from residents.
As usual, Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the murder, saying he was targeted while walking in the area. An AK-47 rifle was also seized from him, Mujahid concluded.
The militia is an armed tribal force created of locals to ensure security for their communities without receiving any wage. However, the name is presently used for an armed force with no official ranks in the government, but is equipped and supported by the government and US forces to fight the rebels.
