KABUL): Five insurgents were killed and 30 others, including a foreigner, were arrested during joint operations in different provinces over past 24 hours, the defence and interior ministries said on Monday.
The operations were conducted by Afghan and NATO-led troops in Nangarhar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Kandahar, and Ghazni provinces.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said a rebel was injured, 23 others detained and 10 AK-47 assault rifles, one machine gun, one mortar shell, 46 anti-vehicle mines and hand grenades, 24 kilograms of explosives, and more than one tonne of drugs including heroin and hashish were seized during the offensives.
In southern Kandahar province, a Pakistani national was detained along with six jerry cans full of explosives and a motorbike in Zherai district, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said seven militants were detained in Farah and Helmand provinces.
Three AK-47 assault rifles, 25 anti-vehicle mines were seized and defused, four sacks of hashish, and 16 boxes of anti-aircraft bullets were seized during the joint operations.
