JALALABAD (PAN): Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission Chairman Dr. Ahmad Mushahid on Saturday said no downsizing would take place in government departments after foreign troops’ withdrawal in 2014.

Speaking at a press conference in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangahar province, Mushahid said his visit was aimed at discussing efforts at good governance with governor, provincial council members and officials.

He claimed the commission had some achievements with regard to good governance and capacity building of government employees since its creation five years ago.

He said reforms could not be introduced in government departments over the past three decades due to the prolonged war, with insecurity and mafia groups creating problems to root out corruption.

He said good governance could be ensured only when viable reforms were implemented in public sector institutions.

Mushahid said government employees would not lose their job with foreign troops’ pullout, instead more people would be appointed to sectors like education.
