KABUL, President Hamid Karzai’s office said on Wednesday.
Karzai and his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari agreed on the joint probe at a meeting on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Saudi Arabia.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said Karzai asked Pakistan to end the incursions immediately. Relations between the neighbours would suffer if the assaults continued, he warned.
Zardari was quoted as saying that a military delegation with representatives from the two countries would visit the border to investigate the rocket and missile barrages.
Earlier in the month, the foreign ministry in Kabul hinted at complaining to the UN Security Council over missile attacks.
Faramarz Tamana, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told a media briefing that it was not yet clear whether the missile attacks were carried by Pakistani forces or insurgent groups.
They would exhaust diplomatic ways to put an end to the assaults, he said, explaining that if the desired results were not achieved, the issue would be taken to the UN Security Council.
