KABUL-fired mortar shell hit a house in neighbouring Kunar, killing one and injuring three others, including a newborn, officials said on Wednesday.
In Nangarhar, one militant was killed and two others were detained by members of an uprising group during a clash in the Hesarak district, the town’s administrative head, Haji Abdul Khaliq Maroof, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The clash that lasted three hours took place after the Taliban attacked residents in the Mohammad Qala area, where residents recently rose in arms against the rebels.
Other rebels managed to flee when police reached the scene, Maroof said. One member of the uprising group was injured.
In Kunar, one member of a family was killed and three others were injured when a Taliban-fired mortar shell hit a house in Narang district, said Wasifullah Wasifi, the governor’s spokesman. A man was killed and two women and a newborn baby girl were injured.
The incident came as a security operation against the rebels is ongoing in Chinar, Daridam and Pitaw villages in Marawara district. The 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman said the said areas were cleared of insurgents during the search operation that began 24 hours ago. He said a similar operation was ongoing in Dangam district.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters killed 17 Afghan and foreign soldiers in Marawara district.
