KABUL): Differences among tribesmen over the land allocated for a university in central Maidan Wardak province have been resolved, the governor’s office said on Friday.
A year back, the governor allocated a piece of land for the university in the Taliban-plagued Syedabad district, but rifts among local tribes hanged as a question mark over the project.
On instructions from the higher education minister, Governor Abdul Majid Khogyani decided to resolve the issue through consultations with public representatives and tribesmen.
A statement from the governor’s house said the problem was solved at a meeting attended by lawmakers, tribal elders and representatives of Wardak, Maidan and Hazara tribes.
The participants decided to select a piece of land for the university either in Syedabad or Maidan Shahr, the provincial capital. By toss, they chose a site in the Khairi desert of the provincial capital.
