FAIZABAD (PAN militants in the Worduj district of remote northern Badakhshan province, an official said on Saturday.
Col. Asadullah, the district police chief, acknowledged the death of four policemen in the assault. In a counterattack, several insurgents were killed, but he gave no specific casualty figures.
Faizabad Civil Hospital Director Dr. Najibullah confirmed that four policemen’s bodies were evacuated to the hospital before being handed over to family members.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, acknowledged injuries to six attackers in the engagement. He claimed the rebels captured the post, killed nine policemen and wounded five others.
According to Mujahid, the Taliban also seized a machine gun, one rocket-propelled grenade, a rifle and large quantity of ammunitions.
