ASADABAD (PAN): Five members of a family were killed in an air strike conducted by the International Security Assistance Force in Wanth Wiagal district of eastern Nuristan on Wednesday, an official said.

District chief Rehmatullah Rehmat told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident took place in Kakigal area at about 11am, where the five members were killed.

The victims were residents of Nangalam area of Marogai district of Kunar province, he added.

They were heading to Wiagal district to welcome a friend who had returned from pilgrimage and wanted to present a sheep to him, a tradition among locals.

The sheep was wounded in the attack.

Victims’ elder brother said two of his siblings were teachers and were harmless people.

A resident from Marogai district said that among the victims were three brothers and two of their nieces.
