JALALABAD (PAN): Five people died as the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a shallow canal in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said Saturday.
The mishap that involved a pick-up vehicle took place in the Ghawchak area on the outskirts of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, around 3:30pm, 1st border police zone official, Col. Mohammad Ayub Husainkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The dead included a child, a woman and three men, he said.
Nangarhar Civil Hospital head Dr. Humayin Zaheer confirmed receiving five dead bodies from the scene.
Witness Nasibullah said the vehicle fell into the deep canal after developing a technical fault. He said all those inside were killed in the accident.
