WASHINGTON (PAN): Young Afghan boys, Fawad Mohammadi and Jawanmard Paiz, received a hero’s welcome at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department on their arrival from Los Angele, where they attended the Oscar award ceremony.

Overwhelmed by the popular response they have been receiving in the US, with people queuing up to photograph them and seek their autographs, the two teens in the movie Buzakshi Boys told a Washington audience they were already experiencing stardom.

“It gives me a feeling that I am a superstar,” Jawanmard said during a question and answer session after the screening of the much acclaimed movie at a jam-packed State Department auditorium. He was referring to the incidents both here and in Los Angeles people seeking autographs from them.

“Your film might not have won exactly what we wanted, but you have won a lot of hearts and have sent a very powerful message,” said Tara D Soneshine, the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs.

Responding to questions from the audience, Fawad said he wanted to be a pilot and continue to act as well. On going back to Afghanistan, he will tell children to believe in their inherent talent and try to achieve success.

“I will also tell the rich people of my country to help children in education and achieve their goals,” Fawad told Pajhwok Afghan News.
