Pakistan to train Afghan cricketers, coaches

KABUL under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the neighbours on Friday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said under the agreement with the game’s regulating body in Afghanistan it would lend technical and professional help to the war-devastated country.

A statement from PCB said the agreement provided for education programmes, coaching courses, skill and performance analysis and basic umpiring courses.

Preliminary curator courses for the Afghans were also covered by the MoU, said the board, which would organise and implement players’ development programmes.

The PCB will also help plan, organise and implement development programmes for players, including at the Pakistan national cricket academy in Lahore.

Two high-performance camps of four weeks each will be arranged for upcoming players at Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy. The annual camps will involve five matches between emerging Afghan and NCA teams.

Noor Muhammad, the Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive officer, acknowledged PCB’s support had been important for cricket development in his country.

“The MOU that we have just signed will put Afghanistan cricket development on a fast track. Our cricketers, coaches and umpires will be able to make use of PCB’s excellent facilities…” he added.
