Baghlan fish-farming project completed

PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): A fish farm was built and work on an irrigation project launched in northern Baghlan province on Thursday, officials said.

As part of the project, a water head and 18 concrete distributory gates of irrigation water will be constructed on Dad-i-Shahabuddin canal in the Pul-i-Khumri.

Director of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Azizullah Aimaq told Pajhwok Afghan News that 2,300 families would benefit from the project that would irrigate 1,600 acres of land.

The project would be implemented at a cost of $64,000 by a German organisation, Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), with financial support from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), said GIZ official Abdul Qayyum.

Meanwhile, a pool for fish farming was inaugurated in the Gaw Sawaran village on the outskirts of Pul-i-Kumri. The pool, with the capacity of storing 160 cubic metres of water, was constructed by the GIZ at a cost of id=”mce_marker”5,000 — with 40 percent of contribution from the Akhwat Cooperative, Qayum said.
