KABUL): Fourteen Afghan prisoners, who had been languishing in Tajikistan‘s prisons, have been handed over to Afghan authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.
Based on the Bilateral Agreement on the Extradition of Prisoners between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, the prisoners were handed over to representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Afghanistan at the shared border on Thursday (May 16).
So far 29 Afghan and 8 Tajik prisoners have been exchanged since the agreement was signed in 2006. The prisoners will serve their remaining sentences in prisons of their own countries.
