HERAT CITY (PAN): Thirty government servants and tribal elders had been killed since the Eidul Fitr festival (Aug. 8) in western Herat province, a public representative said on Friday.
At a meeting with 12 police district chiefs, the provincial council head acknowledged the security situation in the province had lately deteriorated.
Waheed Qatali said victims of the targetted attacks included civil society members. “As many as 30 people have been killed during this period.”
Concerned at the wave of the assaults, he instructed security forces to step up efforts to arrest the situation that augured for the government as well as people.
On the other hand, police spokesman, Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi put last month’s death toll from targetted attacks at 20. He said police were doing their utmost to ensure security across the province.
A public representative, Abdul Zahir, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the 12th police district of Herat City on Wednesday.
Last month, five people including education and prison officials, as well as three security personnel, were killed in the provincial capital.
