LASHKARGAH (PAN): A dozen civilians were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in southern Helmand province, an official said on Saturday.
The explosion happened in the Garmaw area of Sangin district late on Friday, the governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the individuals, belonging to Kajaki district, were on their way to Sangin. Eleven men and a woman were among the fatalities, he said. The van was destroyed as a result of the blast.
Zwak blamed the Taliban for planting the landmine, but there was no immediate reaction from the insurgent movement.
The incident came hours after 20 people, including a district chief, were killed and 30 others wounded in a suicide attack on a mosque in Kunduz province.
