Of the 48 people, including two women, who have obtained information kits on elections, Hezb-i-Wafaq-i-Milli leader Sher is the first to formally jump into the race this afternoon.
A day earlier, IEC Secretary Ziaul Haq Amarkhel said: “We are concerned at the delay in filing of nomination papers because conditions for contesting elections are tough for candidates this time around…”
Registration of candidates for the presidential and provincial council elections began six days ago, a process that will continue till October 6. So far, 1.4 million people have been issued voter registration cards, with women constituting 400,000 of them.
