ASADABAD (PAN airstrike in the Shigal district of eastern Kunar province on Sunday noon, the district chief said.
Abdul Zahir Sapi told Pajhwok Afghan News the airstrike in Chogam area came after militants fired two rockets at the district headquarters. The rockets fell in an uninhibited area, he added.
Soon after the rocket attack, foreign troops positively identified the direction and targeted and killed five insurgents from the air, the official said.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the rocket attack on the district headquarters left four policemen dead and several others wounded. He confirmed the death of two fighters in the subsequent airstrike.
