MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Security officials in the northern zone on Sunday said there was no security threat to next year’s presidential and provincial elections.
Gen. Zalmai Weesa, the 209th Shahin Military Corps commander, told a news conference all security organs in the northern zone were working together to improve security for the elections.
He said Badakhshan, Kunduz, Baghlan and Sar-I-Pul provinces occasionally faced security problems, but the overall situation in the north was satisfactory.
Weesa added security forces were supporting the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in issuing voter cards across the zone. All residents should collect voter cards to take part in the polls, he concluded.
