Pakistan MPs ask govt to shoot down drones

ISLAMABAD (PAN’s sovereignty.

“As a last resort, the government should target drones, as we’re capable of shooting down these pilotless aircraft,” a Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf lawmaker told the lower house on Wednesday.

Dr Shireen Mazari, speaking in the National Assembly, said: “It’s a defining movement for the government to convey a clear message to the US that drones are counterproductive and unacceptable to us.”

Tariqullah, a parliamentarian from the rightwing Jamaat-i-Islami party, held a similar view. He quoted a military official as asserting Pakistan’s capability of shooting down the remotely-piloted aircraft.

But members of most political parties stressed the need for avoiding confrontation with the US and pursuing peace negotiations with the Taliban militants.
