KABUL (Pajhwok): Former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has rejected remarks by Pakistani military spokesman Ahmed Shareef Chaudhry that “Afghanistan is not a state” and urged Pakistani officials to change their failed and dangerous policy towards Afghanistan.

In a post on his X account, Khalilzad said General Chaudhry had made the remarks in a “hostile and provocative manner”, claiming that Afghanistan was not a state.

“Under international law, he is technically wrong. Afghanistan has been a state for centuries before Pakistan’s creation,” he said.

Khalilzad urged Pakistan’s military establishment to change its “dangerous and failed” policy towards Afghanistan.

He stressed that Afghanistan and Pakistan needed each other and that both countries should work to establish good and positive relations.
