SHARAN (PAN clinic have been closed due to insecurity in the capital of southeastern Paktika province, residents and officials said on Saturday.

The facilities in Mohammad Khel area on the outskirts of Sharan were closed in the wake of frequent attacks by insurgents on a police post located nearby, an elder of the area, Durrani Mohammad Khel, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said so far 12 people had been injured in clashes between the police and insurgents over the past one year.

He alleged police often subjected innocent people to violence after coming under attack from the Taliban.

After a series of clashes, people and shopkeepers opted to leave the Mohammad Khel’s bazaar.

The elder warned schools, madrasas, clinics and the local bazaar could entirely go shut if the police post was not relocated.

Another resident Mohammad Aslam said if the post was shifted to another place, people would feel secure.

He added police always raided schools search to search for militants following attacks on them, something badly affecting the education.

Paktia governor’s spokesman Mukhlis Afghan a delegation had been appointed to visit the area and investigate the issue.
