HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): One person died and 33 others were hospitalised with injuries they sustained in car accidents in western Herat province in past 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.
The zonal hospital spokesman, Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the deceased was a 25-year-old man.
He said the injured included women, children and youth currently being treated at the zonal hospital in Herat City.
Sherzai said the accidents occurred due to crowded roads as most people were traveling to recreational sites to celebrate the Nawroz festival.
Traffic Department head Faiz Rahman Mayar blamed the mishaps on fast and reckless driving, saying the influx of cars had led to crowded roads.
