GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Local artistes on Thursday released a new film “Taqdeer” (destiny) at a ceremony in the capital of southeastern Paktia province.
Held at the Provincial Information and Culture Department in Gardez, the movie launch ceremony was attended by a number of culturists and local residents.
The movie that took one year to complete features youth trying to prevent crimes, bring peace and fight social evils.
Mohammad Amin Hairan, the film’s producer and central character, said the movie cost 400,000 afghanis, all paid by the actors themselves.
The film was shot in Paktia and other provinces and mostly in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, he said.
He said a shortage of female artistes, economic constrains and no government’s support were problems the film industry faced in Afghanistan.
Paktia Information and Culture Director Mohammad Shafa Mushfaq said making such a decent film in Paktia was a great achievement.
He acknowledged they did not provide assistance the film-makers needed, but said they were facilitated in some areas. He said they wanted to develop the film industry and facilitate artistes in the future.
After watching the trailer, some spectators said it was not in conflict with the Afghan culture and such efforts should be praised.
Culture expert Faridullah also hailed the film, saying such movies would leave positive impact on efforts at achieving peace in the country.
“It is a nice movie which can be watched with family. The government should promote such efforts,” he said.
Hairan has previously produced three films — Watan Zalmai, Bazaar and Da Lastoni Mar — before Taqdeer.
