NEW DELHI (Pajhwok): The Hockey India (HI), the governing body, has decided to provide aid to the Afghanistan Hockey Federation.
“With the aim of promoting hockey as a sport, Hockey India took a strategic decision to provide aid to the Afghanistan Hockey Federation,” it said.
The decision was taken at a board meeting of Hockey India at Holiday Inn Hotel in New Delhi on Saturday.
The Afghanistan Hockey Federation had requested aid in a communiqué received earlier this month. The HI Board agreed to send hockey sticks, balls and goalkeeper pads to the war-shattered country.
Speaking on the contribution, Hockey India official Narinder Batra said the body was committed to the grassroots development of the sport. “This is a small contribution to promote hockey among enthusiasts in Afghanistan.”
