PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Security forces shot dead a high schoolteacher during a brief raid on his home in this capital city of central Logar province, the education director said on Monday.
Logar Education Director Mohammad Akbar Stanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Sunday night in the Honi Syedan area of Pul-i-Alam.
He said the Afghan forces surrounded Maulvi Abdul Jalil’s house and shot him to death after a short siege.
He said the 42-year-old had been a teacher of religious subjects in the area high school over the past 12 years and had no connection with any militant outfit.
Jalil, who returned home from Saudi Arabia three days ago after performing Umrah, was shot seven times in the chest by police, he said.
The police knocked at the door of Jalil’s home and opened fire at him soon after he came out, the education director said, adding Jalil’s two brothers had also been arrested.
But police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzoy said they had strong evidence of Jalil’s connections with the Taliban. He said Jalil was killed after he showed hostile acts.
Ishaqzoy said they had arrested and released two persons as asked by the governor and tribal elders.
