Kidnapped intelligence official found dead

KUNDUZ CITY/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The body of an intelligence officer was found on Sunday, a day after he was kidnapped by militants in northwestern Faryab province, an official said.

Abdul Momin, the slain intelligence officer, was the spy head for Balcharagh district. He was abducted by Taliban from Timor Kaprak area on the Almar-Qaisar highway.

Abdul Jamil, the Qaisar district chief, said the officer’s body was found in the area where he was kidnapped. The Taliban freed two of the victim’s associates after brief captivity.

Separately, one civilian was killed and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were wounded when a magnetic bomb attached to their vehicle went off in the capital of Kunduz. Police chief Maj. Ibadullah Talwar told Pajhwok Afghan News an ANA commander was the aim target of the attack. But two soldiers sustained injuries in the blast.

A local shopkeeper, Arbab, said: “The explosion was so powerful that it shook the entire area. It left a roadside vendor dead and some others injured.”
