Man dumps 2-month-old son into well

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A man threw his two-month-old son into a well as a result of a property dispute in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Sunday.

Crime branch chief, Capt. Abdul Latif, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Rahmatullah — angered by the child’s crying at midnight — took his baby out of the room and dumped him into a well.

Latif said the man had been in a brawl with his brothers over property before the incident. The killer, detained on the basis of a complaint from his family, has confessed to his crime.

The Jawzjan Ulema Council head, also a religious scholar, said: “Allah will harshly punish the people and they will burn in hell all the time.”

Maulvi Mohammad Rassoul Mujahaz called the incident an act of ignorance and asked the government to prosecute the man in accordance with the law of the land.

Human Rights Director Maghfirat Samimi condemned the killing of the child and urged the judiciary to award exemplary punishment to the killer.
