SHARAN (Pajhwok): Under a new programme, a chain of 150 schools would be established in three districts of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Monday.
The regional programme of Education Ministry is called Ilhaqi Schools, which will be established in far-flung areas to help spread education.
Education Director Kochai Zazai told Pajhwok Afghan News the programme was aimed at facilitating people’s access to education. Paktika is the 11th province where the scheme has been launched.
The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) would fund teachers’ salaries and pay other expanses. Mohammadullah Himmat, the department’s spokesman, said the schools would be set up in heavily-populated areas.
Between every two schools, there will be a distance of three kilometres. Paktia has 344 schools — 207 primary, 59 intermediate and 58 high. Around 142,034 students are enrolled across the province.
