MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Drivers and passengers on Thursday asked the government to reconstruct the damaged portion of the Kabul-North Highway in the Tashqar Ghan area of northern Balkh province on a permanent basis.
Earlier in the month, flash floods washed away a large section of the highway, but the authorities moved quickly to create alternative route for traffic.
Mohammad Amin, a driver, was happy over the alternative road’s pavement, but said the diversion took extra time reaching Mazar-i-Sharif. He demanded a permanent solution to the problem.
The highway closure is blamed for a 50 percent decline in the revenue of Balkh Customs Department.
