24 closed schools reopen in Kunduz

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): At least 24 schools closed due to security concerns in Dasht-i-Arche district of northern Kunduz province reopened on Saturday, the Ministry of Education announced.

The ministry in a statement asked security forces to carry out their operations away from schools and residential areas. 

The schools were closed weeks ago to insecurity but reopened on Saturday following mediation by religious figures and elders.

Finding their schools open, students expressed happiness and asked the warring parties not to target schools.

Muhammad Atif, a student from Ghulam Haider School, said students missed classes for a month because of deteriorated law and order.

As many as 470 schools are open in Kunduz where over 300,000 girls and boys students are enrolled.
