FORTALEZA (Pajhwok): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently attending the BRICS summit in Brazil, has called upon the world fight the forces of terrorism and build a peaceful nation.
Speaking on “Political Coordination: International Governance & Regional Crises” at the sixth BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit, Modi said: “Afghanistan is facing an uncertain future.”
The Afghan people had suffered for decades, he noted, saying the global fraternity must unite to support them in building a peaceful, stable, democratic and prosperous country.
He added: “We must help Afghanistan fight the forces of terrorism. This is important for it to preserve the progress it has made in the last decade.” India would continue to assist Afghanistan in building its capacity in governance, security and economic development, he reiterated.
Modi said the region stretching from Afghanistan to Africa was experiencing turbulence and conflict. “This is causing grave instability that is fast seeping across borders. This impacts us all. Remaining mute spectators to countries being torn up in this manner can have grave consequences.”
