HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): In the wake of growing insecurity and people’s complaints, the police chief and other high-ranking officials for western Herat province were replaced in on Thursday.
Ikramuddin Yawar, deputy director at the Ministry of Interior (MoI), introduced the new officers in the provincial capital. Brig. Gen. Abdul Baqi Behsudi, Aminullah Azad and Syed Gul Agha Hashmi were appointed as police chief, director of security and crime branch chief respectively.
Yawar said the measure had been taken in accordance with public demand, especially by the business community. He agreed peace in the province had been undermined by kidnappings, assassinations, roadside bombing, etc.
Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi assured his support for the changes. He advised the new officers to develop a team spirit and strive to bring about peace by keeping close liaison with community leaders.
Brig. Gen. Baqi said on the occasion that bringing peace and ending departmental corruption would be among his top priorities. He asked the corrupt officials to relinquish their duties voluntarily or face consequences.
