KUNDUZ CITY/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Two pro-government fighters and six militants have been killed in northern provinces of the country, officials said on Monday.

The government supporters were killed during an overnight Taliban attack in the Muradyan district of Jawzjan province, police officer Col. Abdul Manaf Raufi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the attack in Chlik district, lasting two hours, was repulsed after police reinforcements arrived in the area.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed destroying two Afghan Local Police (ALP) check-posts in the area. He did not comment on casualties.

Mohammad Karim, a resident of the locality, said the slain individual were members of an uprising group that had purged the area of militants.

Elsewhere, six insurgents were killed and four others wounded during a clash with security forces in the Dasht-i-Archi district of Kunduz province.

Police regained control of a lost post and seized four Kalashnikovs, a machine gun and one rocket in the clash. Police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini confirmed the incident.

On the other hand, the Taliban claimed killing of seven ALP officials in the attack.
