HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Two prisoners managed to escape from the central jail in western Herat province, an official said on Monday. Six others were captured while trying to flee.
Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News, eight prisoners tried to escape jail last night but six of them were arrested while two managed to escape through a tunnel.
He would not say who had dug up the tunnel. However, the spokesman added efforts were underway to recapture the fleeing prisoners.
But an inmate confided to Pajhwok 12 prisoners tried to escape. Police apprehended two and 10 ran away. There are 3,000 prisoners in Herat jail, including 100 women
