KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Friday said his administration welcomed and supported attempts at greater regional integrity and unity.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on the sidelines the fourth meeting Heart of Asia Conference in Beijing.

The Presidential Palace in Kabul said the two sides discussed bilateral relations, including cooperation in areas of energy and transportation.

Hailing Turkmenistan as a good neighbour and friend of the Afghan people, the president appreciated constructive cooperation from Turkmenistan with his landlocked country over the past 13 years.

Afghanistan fully backed efforts for forging greater links among regional countries, he observed.

In response, Meredov said that his country remained willing to expand electricity export to energy-deficient Afghanistan.

He also delivered President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s invitation to Ahmadzai to visit Turkmenistan. The president appreciated the gesture, extending a similar invitation to his Turkmen counterpart.

The president also held brief meetings with America’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Daniel Feldman and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif on issues of common interest.
