SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Three women returning from Umrah pilgrimage to Makkah and their driver died when their vehicle crashed into a truck near the capital of northern Jawzjan province on Tuesday, police said.
Jawzjan police chief Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News the car carrying the pilgrims hit the truck parked on the side of a road in Qamsai area of Shiberghan. Three women and the car’s driver killed in the accident.
He said the victims were on their way from Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, to Jawzjan.
The traffic department head in neighbouring Faryab province, Col. Mohammad Ikram Elyar, blamed the tragic incident on the car’s driver.
He said the truck had been parked on the side due to a technical fault and a stone was used to indicate the situation, but the car’s driver did not notice.
The incident comes about a month after a female Haj pilgrim was killed and three children and as many men injured in a traffic accident in Khwaja Sabzposh district of Faryab.
